04:46 AM Mar 22, 2011 SINGAPORE - K Rajagopal's Malaysian side that won last December's AFF Suzuki Cup could be on their way to Singapore to play against Great Eastern-Yeo's S-League champions Etoile FC this weekend.
The French side face Tanjong Pagar tonight at Queenstown Stadium, followed by a nine-day break before their next match against Woodlands Wellington, enough time for a serious game and a worthwhile cause to boot.
While unable to confirm details at press time, Etoile chairman Johan Gouttefangeas told MediaCorp: "We are in touch with the Football Association of Singapore and Vanda Sports, to arrange to play this match against the Malaysian senior side after the Courts Young Lions' games against Albirex Niigata at Jalan Besar Stadium on Saturday.
"We will be meeting them (today) where the picture will be clearer."
Gouttefangeas is looking to contribute all gate receipts to Japan's rescue efforts following the deadly earthquake and tsunami on March 11.
"We helped Albirex do something for Japan at our last game, where our fanclub also chipped in to help. With this match, we'd like to do something for Japan ourselves," said the Frenchman.
Some S$4,297 was raised at the Jurong East Stadium last week, when Etoile beat Albirex 1-0. At the same game, the Etoile fanclub presented Albirex chairman Daisuke Korenaga with a cheque as a token of their support for Japan. SHAMIR OSMAN
Last night's S-League match between Woodlands and Tampines was abandoned due to lightning, with Tampines leading 1-0.
