SINGAPORE - National striker Khairul Amri has given the police his account over the alleged assault on bar operations supervisor Ahmad Shah.
Shah spoke to The Sunday Times and alleged that Amri had urged on the four men who had attacked him on Wednesday night.
When contacted yesterday, Amri declined to go into any details, saying: "I've already given the police a statement. The matter is under investigation by the police and I trust they will be thorough in their investigations."
The 26-year-old is currently on crutches after surgery on his left knee. He suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament last month while playing for his Indonesian club Persiba Balikpapan.
A police spokesperson confirmed that four men have been arrested in relation to the matter, for the offence of rioting, and have been released on bail. Investigations are still ongoing.
MediaCorp understands that Amri was not one of the four arrested.
Shah told The Sunday Times that he had been "dating" Amri's wife Eva Roslan for about two months while Amri was based in Indonesia. He said he was assaulted by four men, including Amri's father-in-law, brother-in-law and younger brother, after agreeing to meet Eva's father at the void deck of his home in Woodlands.
Amri suffered a big blow when his knee injury ruled him out of the clash with Malaysia in the second round of the Asian Zone World Cup qualifiers on July 23, with the return leg five days later at Bukit Jalil Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.
His contract with Persiba ends in October and the pacy forward has still not been offered a new agreement.
