SINGAPORE - Mike Wong, who led Geylang United to their only trophy over the last decade, has decided to leave the club.
After three straight defeats so far in the 2012 Great Eastern-Yeo's S-League, Geylang announced on Tuesday that Wong, 47, would switch roles with Geylang's Prime League (under-23) coach V Kanan.
After speaking with Geylang chairman Leong Kok Fann yesterday, Wong, who guided the club to victory in the 2009 RHB Singapore Cup, has decided to reject the new role.
Said Geylang general manager Lim Tong Hai: "Mike has informed us that he won't be taking up our offer of coaching the Prime League side, but we are parting on amicable terms.
"We've yet to iron out the details of compensation and exactly when he will leave, that will be done when the team returns from Brunei."
Kanan will take full charge of the team for the first time in the S-League this evening when they take on DPMM in Bandar Sri Begawan.
