Date:
Mon, 20 Jun 2011 The game got off to a slow start and steadily picked up pace with both teams looking to break the deadlock. The NFA U-16 team came close in the 12th min through winger Hanafi Akbar but he directed his header straight into the arms of CR Flamengo’s goalkeeper Thiago Rodrigues
CR Flamengo found it hard to get past the NFA Singapore U-16 backline with new captain, Dukhilan Jeevamani in charge. It was a tense affair for the rest of the first-half as both sides cancelled each other out with neither side finding the back of the net.
Ciao Thimoteo of CR Flamengo U-15 got his marching orders in the 53rd minute for a malicious challange on goal-bound Muhaimin Suhaimi. The Cubs went into attack mode, taking advantage of the extra man for them on the pitch.
The tactic proved to be effective as the Cubs broke the deadlock with left winger Jonathan Tan providing a low cross to Muhaimin Suhaimi who converted the chance with a well-placed shot to send the crowd into a frenzy of cheers.
Despite conceding a goal and with a player short, CR Flamengo U-15 continued to push forward for an equaliser. It finally came through Jorge Marco who let fly a screamer from the edge of the penalty box, with only five minutes to play.
The NFA Singapore U-16 gave their all in the closing minutes of the game but they were unable to turn the game around to their advantage.

The new Singapore NFA U-16 Captain, Dhukhilan Jeevamani, said that he did not feel the pressure of the captaincy and was proud to be awarded the man-of-the-match. Muhaimin Suhaimi gave all credit to his team mates when asked about his goal in the press conference, saying “Without them, I would have not been able to score the goal and it is always about team work for us.”
Though it was a draw, CR Flamego U-15’s Coach, Celso Martins felt that his players played well and was happy with the result. Speaking on the red card, he said ‘the dismissal was fair and his player mistimed his challenge.”
He went on to add that the NFA Singapore U-16 played a good passing game and has the potential to go far in football.
Goal scorer Jorge Marco felt that the difference between the Everton side they faced on Saturday and The Cubs was the passing game that the Singapore U-16 team played.
