MALAYSIAN SUPER LEAGUE 2012

Perak vs LionsXII

IPOH - Sufian Anuar will be in the LionsXII starting line-up when the Singapore team take on Perak in the Malaysian Super League (MSL) here tonight.

Sufian inspired the side in their 3-1 win over reigning Malaysia Cup champions Negeri Sembilan on Saturday at the Jalan Besar Stadium and coach V Sundramoorthy confirmed that the 25-year-old will operate as the lone striker once again at the Perak Stadium.

Speaking here yesterday, Sundram said: "He has put himself in the starting line-up after his performance against Negeri Sembilan and it's up to him to keep himself there.

"But he needs to stay composed and not get carried away by the one performance he has delivered,"

The foul weather here yesterday played havoc with the two teams' training sessions.

Perak's session was cut short and the LionsXII, understrength yesterday, went through their workout in a slight drizzle.

Due to National Service commitments, Hariss Harun, Safuwan Baharudin, Shakir Hamzah, Yasir Hanapi and Khairul Nizam are all expected to arrive here today.

With midfield hardman Isa Halim suspended, Hariss Harun will partner Shahdan Sulaiman in the heart of the engine room.

Confidence has been high in the camp since the stylish win on Saturday, with the team moving into fourth place in the standings six points behind league leaders Kelantan.

Sundram has spent some time trying to ensure his men don't get carried away.

"We should not be too over-confident following the win over Negeri Sembilan.

"It's always a different game when you are playing away and with a full stadium expected tomorrow, it will be a tough match.

"So we must be focused and very disciplined," he said.

Midfield anchor Isa, who has been outstanding so far in the LionsXII MSL campaign, will be missed.

Perak, who are second, four points ahead of the LionsXII, will be up for the game and coach Norizan Bakar said: "As hosts, we do not want to lose in front of our fans, despite this being our fourth match in 10 days.

"But we are aware the LionsXII are a steady and confident team and I'll be relying on my senior players to guide the younger ones through this tough encounter."

As for Perak assistant manager Ahmad Shahrul Azhar Sofian, playing the LionsXII will give his team greater motivation.

"Apart from representing the state, the players feel they are also flying the flag for the nation.

"That itself has given this match an extra buzz and I'm sure the fans will turn out in droves for tomorrow's match as it has been a long time since a Singapore team played here."

The Perak Stadium can hold 42,500 people and locals Today spoke to are already predicting that around 10,000 fans will turn up to back their favourites despite it being a mid-week fixture.

LionsXII probable starting line-up:

Izwan Mahbud, Juma'at Jantan, Baihakki Khaizan, Safuwan Baharudin, Shaiful Esah, Hariss Harun, Yasir Hanapi, Shahril Ishak, Shahdan Sulaiman, Irwan Shah, Sufian Anuar
