Dollah Kassim Award winner, Ammirul Emmran's once-in-a-lifetime experience

Source

It is every young aspiring footballer’s dream to be able to learn from the best in the world of football.

Ammirul Emmran who featured in the Bronze medal winning Singapore NFA Under-16 team at last year’s YOG and also helped his team to finish second-place in the 23rd Canon Lion City Cup, had his dream come true when he won the 2010 Dollah Kassim Award.

The Dollah Kassim Award, aimed at aspiring young talent, is an initiative by The New Paper, in partnership with the Football Association of Singapore (FAS) and Singapore Pools.

As part of winning the award, Ammirul was offered a 2-week long training stint with The Newcastle United Youth Academy.

The attachment saw him travel to Newcastle on the 31st of October 2011 and will end on the 13th of November 2011. Arrangements were made by Football Association of Singapore, TNP, Singapore Pools and Newcastle United Football Academy after Ammirul’s parents approved of this once-in-a-lifetime attachment.

With a foster family in place to cater to his daily needs in Newcastle and training schedule confirmed, he made the gruelling but exciting 15-hour journey to the St James Park, Newcastle.

And now that the attachment is in its last week, Ammriul has this to share with us, “My experience so far has been very beneficial. I am having a great time over here in Newcastle training and exploring the city. The food over here is amazing.

“The players from the academy really make me feel part of the team as well as the coaches & staffs, which is really good i must say. What I've learnt here is that hard work is the key word in football. Especially during trainings. I've been training with the U-18 boys. No doubt they are physically big and very determined during training. So, that’s good for me. I can learn something new from them.”

Ammirul also had the opportunity to watch the Barclays Premier League match between Newcastle United and Everton at the St James Park over the weekend and his Newcastle adventure will continue this week.

When the tenacious midfielder finally returns to the sunny shores of Singapore, you can be sure that he will have a bagful of interesting footballing stories to share with his team-mates in the NFA U-16 side.
