SINGAPORE - The Republic's successful passage into the third round of the FIFA World Cup Asian qualifiers has resulted in the extension of the S-League till late November.
The domestic season was originally slated to end on Nov 4, but will now be completed on Nov 28.
Yesterday, the S-League released a revised fixtures list for the rest of the season, which will see 29 league matches and three existing Singapore Cup round of 16 games moved. Dates for all matches from the quarter-finals onwards for the Singapore Cup have not been firmed.
Meanwhile, national coach Radojko Avramovic is expected to announce soon his initial squad of 25 players, ahead of the Group A opener against China on Sept 2, likely to be held in the high altitude of Kunming, which is about 1,900m above sea level.
According to an S-League spokesman, the squad will be called up for centralised training days before an away friendly match against Thailand, tentatively scheduled for Aug 24.
The players will be kept together until the completion of the second World Cup group match against Iraq at home on Sept 6.
The names of the players to be called up, as well as details of the Lions' preparations for the World Cup qualifiers, are expected to be released within the next week.
