The Singapore NFA U-15 side suffered their first loss in their AFF Under-16 Championship Group B campaign in Vientiane Laos as they went down 2-1 to Myanmar U-16.

Myanmar took an early lead in the 17th minute through Wai Hin Tun and secured another in the 23rd minute with Aung Myat Soe scoring from a free-kick. The scoreline remained unchanged as both teams went into the break.

The Cubs tried their best to overcome the two-goal deficit in the second half and were rewarded with a late goal in the 90th minute by Muhelmy Suhaimi who latched on the rebound from an in-swinging free-kick by team mate, Mahathir Azeman.

The Cubs will need one point from their next match against Cambodia on the 16th of July 2011, to assure their chances of advancing into the next round.

Coach Dejan Gluscevic said after the match: “Myanmar are the toughest opponents we have faced in this tournament so far and they are very skilful. After scoring the first goal, they kept the ball well and our boys tried their best to play their normal passing game.”

He was also quick to point out that despite needing only a draw in their next match against Cambodia, he will send his team out with a positive message. “We will go out and attack. We need to score at least one goal rather than sit back and play for a draw. If we do so, one goal could swing things a different way.” added coach Dejan Gluscevic.
