The Malaysia Cup days were very exciting for Singaporeans and our neighbours across the Causeway. I think it helped add even more excitement to what was already a red-hot atmosphere whenever the Singapore national team took on Malaysia.
I watch the English Premier League matches regularly on TV and envy the passion and excitement of the fans. I've heard so many stories that it is the same kind of atmosphere whenever Singapore and Malaysia meet.
Everyone is so passionate about football in both countries and I cannot wait for the big kick-off tonight. And I dream of turning out for the Lions in such games in future.
Malaysia-Singapore matches help foster a good bond and understanding between the two countries. Yes, the fans can get loud and rowdy, and the players go in even harder in the tackles and are more determined, but that is what is special about derbies.
Sport always unites people no matter what background they come from, no matter their race and religion, and a football clash between Malaysia and Singapore is the biggest stage of them all for both countries.
I loved the experienced of playing in front of my friends, family and Singapore's passionate fans at the recent Canon Lion City Cup. I loved playing for my country.
Like the rest of Singapore, I will be cheering on the Lions tonight.
I think it is important for young aspiring footballers to first realise why a Causeway derby is so important to the fans.
Tonight will be intense, and I will take in the atmosphere and feel the passion. I will kick every ball as my seniors battle with the Malaysians out on the field at the Jalan Besar Stadium. I pray Singapore win.
And that one day, I will be playing in such a game.
Dhukilan Jeevamani, 16, is a central defender for the Singapore under-16 team. He impressed at the recent Canon Lion City Cup, where the side finished runners-up behind the Brazilians from Flamengo FC.
